What does God’s word teach about Dealing with Problems?

3. “God Centered Prayer” : 1 Kings 8: 56-60

1 Kings 8: 56-60 “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised, Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us. May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers. And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other."

When Solomon prayed at the dedication of the temple he put God in the center of all his requests. He praised the Lord and prayed for the people. He asked for God’s presence, he asked for the desire to do God’s will in everything, he asked for each day's needs, he asked for the desire and ability to obey God’s commands and decrees, and he asked for the spread of God’s word throughout the world. When we have problems in life and we go to the Lord with this pattern of prayer we can be assured that God hears and answers. This perspective lets God take the lead in everything we do and think. It teaches us to see and trust God in His almighty power and presence. It also asks us to be His instruments for His will and not our own. In trouble or distress? Seek His word for attitude and answers and pray to His glory. Solomon's prayer reflects a lot of what our Saviour taught us. Jesus prayed to God and showed us how we ought to pray. If you read the Lord's prayer you'll see it starts with God, praises Him for His greatness, and seeks His Will. Only then does Jesus ask for our daily needs. Notice how he asks for bread - a basic staple food. He's asking God to take care of His needs - not wants, but NEEDS. Knowing the difference between want and need can make the difference between a happy countenance and a miserable one. When you seek God in prayer, start with praise and ask that His Will be done; ultimately His Will for us is good and perfect.
