Matters of the heart
Proverbs 3: 5, 6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Its interesting that the heart is often spoken of in the Bible. Several times we are told to keep things in our heart; for example Deut 6:6 "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.", Proverbs 6:21 "Bind them always on your heart, fasten them around your neck." and 2 Corinthians 3:3 "You show that you are a letter from Christ, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the Living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts."
The heart is an important thing, and is often spoken of in an emotional and mental sense. As a teenager I used to write quite a bit of poetry and more often than not I spoke of things that affected my heart. We tend to use the heart as a way to express something that is important to us. We believe something with all our hearts, we love with our hearts, we get heart broken... Where your "heart is" shows what you find important. What's in your heart?
The world will tell you to trust in yourself, believe in yourself. You can do it! You have it in you to succeed! The Bible however tells us not to trust in ourselves but in the Lord. Proverbs 3 tells us that wisdom bestows well being. When we trust in the Lord with all our heart and remember His commands and teaching we will find peace, prosperity, and a good name in the sight of God and man (vs 1-4). You must not be "wise in your own eyes" but lean on the wisdom of God's Word and you will find understanding and blessings in abundance. God blesses those who trust in Him. Follow Him and He will direct your feet and keep you from stumbling (vs 23). Open your Bible today, bind His words upon your heart and mind; trust in God for all things and He will bless you and keep you. Let His Word be in your Heart.
